What You’ll Do

  • Support the Deputy Director: Liaison in executing the government communication programme.
  • Disseminate government information and implement communication projects aligned with governmental priorities.
  • Supervise and monitor the work of Senior Communication Officers and interns in the district.
  • Coordinate communication structures to effectively distribute government content to local government leaders.
  • Advocate for strengthened Local Government Communication Systems through Integrated Governance structures.
  • Provide communication support for various integrated service delivery models, including the District Development Model.
  • Develop and maintain stakeholder relations with civil society, community media, and local government.
  • Manage rapid response communication requirements and write service delivery articles.
  • Develop local distribution strategies for government information products.
  • Produce local communication assessments on key district issues for stakeholders.

What You’ll Need

  • A National Diploma (NQF 6) in Journalism, Media Studies, Communication, or Public Relations with a focus on Journalism/Media/Communication.
  • At least three years of relevant experience, including one year in a supervisory capacity within the communications field.
  • A strong understanding of development communication practices and knowledge of the KwaZulu Natal Province, particularly Harry Gwala District.
  • Proficiency in digital communication methods and tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to work independently.
  • Valid Code 08 driver’s licence for extensive travel.
  • Basic knowledge of administration and finance, with the ability to work under pressure.
