What You’ll Do

  • Provide holistic and specialized nursing care to mental health patients in accordance with established standards and legal frameworks.
  • Collaborate with nursing staff and other healthcare professionals to maintain constructive working relationships.
  • Efficiently manage human, material, and physical resources to support optimal patient care.
  • Participate in the training and development of staff, students, and the community to improve mental health awareness and care.
  • Conduct outreach services to enhance community health and wellbeing.
  • Assist with administrative duties, including data collection and reporting.

What You’ll Need

  • R425 qualification (diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent, allowing registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
  • A post-basic nursing qualification in Advanced Psychiatric Nursing Science or a related field, accredited with the SANC.
  • For Grade 1: A minimum of 4 years of relevant nursing experience post-registration; for Grade 2: At least 14 years of recognized nursing experience post-registration, with 10 years in the specialty.
  • Registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse.
  • Ability to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays, and rotate within the psychiatry unit.
  • Competent in problem-solving, report writing, and basic computer skills, including MS Office applications.
