The Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) is seeking a dedicated Principal Communication Officer based in Pretoria. By capturing and analysing communication performance data, you will play a vital part in ensuring that the public receives timely and accurate information about government initiatives and priorities, ultimately serving the South African community.

In this role, you will be instrumental in supporting media monitoring and analysis through the GCIS’ Media Monitoring and Analysis System. Your insights will contribute to the development of media analysis reports and the implementation of key GCIS projects, including the Government Communication Policy. What You’ll Do

  • Monitor and evaluate government communication performance across various levels.
  • Capture and analyse communication data to assess media coverage of key government initiatives.
  • Support the compilation of media analysis reports to inform communication strategies.
  • Assist with the implementation of the Government Communication Policy and related projects.
  • Contribute to administrative functions within the Directorate to enhance operational efficiency.

What You’ll Need

  • A National Diploma (NQF 6) in Journalism, Media Studies, Communication, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • At least two years of experience in communication and media monitoring and analysis.
  • Proficiency in data capturing and the use of Excel spreadsheets.
  • Strong communication, planning, and research skills.
  • A valid code 8 or 10 driver’s license and willingness to travel.
  • Solid understanding of the South African media landscape and current affairs.
