About the Role
The Department of Health is looking for dedicated individuals to fill the role of Pharmacist Grade 1 at two vital locations: Rob Ferreira Hospital in the Ehlanzeni District and Amajuba Memorial Hospital in the Gert Sibande District. As a Pharmacist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that hospital patients receive safe and effective medications. This position not only supports the healthcare system but also contributes to the well-being of the community in Mpumalanga, making a direct impact on public health.
This role is essential for maintaining the highest standards in pharmaceutical care within the hospitals. Your expertise will guide the development of hospital medicine formularies and the management of pharmaceutical expenditure, thereby enhancing the quality of care provided to all patients.

What You’ll Do
- Select and procure drugs and surgical items for hospital use.
- Ensure the rational use of medications to promote patient safety.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive hospital medicine formulary.
- Monitor and manage expenditure on pharmaceutical and surgical items.
- Perform stock control functions to ensure adequate inventory levels.
- Reconcile pharmaceutical accounts accurately and efficiently.
- Supervise and train Pharmacy Support Staff, Interns, Community Servers, and Junior Pharmacists.
What You’ll Need
- A Senior Certificate / Grade 12 and a Pharmacy Degree or equivalent qualification.
- Current registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) valid until 2026.
- Strong leadership and managerial skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Good interpersonal skills and computer literacy.
- A commitment to quality development for yourself and others.
