What You’ll Do
- Conduct post-mortems on natural and unnatural deaths, providing critical insights into causes of death.
- Prepare and complete detailed medico-legal reports, including all necessary ancillary investigations.
- Deliver expert testimony in court and provide expert opinions on inquest dockets.
- Engage in academic teaching and training of medical students and forensic pathology officers.
- Participate in clinical governance and quality assurance initiatives within the division.
- Assist the Head of the Clinical Unit with administrative tasks as required.
What You’ll Need
- An appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Forensic Pathology.
- Grade 1: No experience required post-registration; Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years’ experience; Grade 3: At least 10 years’ experience as a Medical Specialist in Forensic Pathology.
- Valid driver’s license (Code B/EB).
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge of forensic pathology legislation, policies, and practices in South Africa.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Proficient in computer and software applications relevant to forensic medicine.
