What You’ll Do

  • Conduct post-mortems on natural and unnatural deaths, providing critical insights into causes of death.
  • Prepare and complete detailed medico-legal reports, including all necessary ancillary investigations.
  • Deliver expert testimony in court and provide expert opinions on inquest dockets.
  • Engage in academic teaching and training of medical students and forensic pathology officers.
  • Participate in clinical governance and quality assurance initiatives within the division.
  • Assist the Head of the Clinical Unit with administrative tasks as required.

What You’ll Need

  • An appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Forensic Pathology.
  • Grade 1: No experience required post-registration; Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years’ experience; Grade 3: At least 10 years’ experience as a Medical Specialist in Forensic Pathology.
  • Valid driver’s license (Code B/EB).
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of forensic pathology legislation, policies, and practices in South Africa.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficient in computer and software applications relevant to forensic medicine.
