About the Role

The Department of Correctional Services is seeking dedicated Medical Officers (Grade 1 – 3) to join their team in Goodwood, Pollsmoor, Drakenstein, Allandale, and several other locations across the Western Cape. This role is crucial for providing essential medical health care services within correctional facilities, ensuring that inmates receive the medical attention they require. In this role, you will be responsible for rendering basic medical health care services, improving the clinical quality of primary health care, and providing emergency medical care, including after-hours support. What You’ll Do

• Facilitate and support the provision of medical health care services within correctional facilities.
• Render basic medical health care services to inmates.
• Improve clinical quality through direct patient care and mentoring of healthcare professionals.
• Provide medico-legal services and participate in relevant meetings.
• Implement and monitor adherence to national health standards and guidelines.
• Coordinate medical emergency preparedness and provide life support services.
• Refer patients to authorized healthcare providers as needed.
• Manage performance information, human resources, and financial aspects related to healthcare services.

What You’ll Need

• An appropriate qualification for registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a medical officer.
• Current HPCSA registration as a medical practitioner.
• Basic medical degree (MBBCH or equivalent).
• For Grade 1: No experience required; for Grade 2: Minimum of 5 years’ experience; for Grade 3: Minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Medical Officer.
• Computer literacy and a valid driver’s license.
• Excellent clinical skills and strong communication abilities.
• Knowledge of public health legislation and financial management.
• Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work collaboratively in a team.
