What You’ll Do

  • Facilitate and support the provision of medical health care services within correctional facilities.
  • Render basic medical health care services to inmates.
  • Improve clinical quality through direct patient care and mentoring of healthcare professionals.
  • Provide medico-legal services and participate in relevant meetings.
  • Implement and monitor adherence to national health standards and guidelines.
  • Coordinate medical emergency preparedness and provide life support services.
  • Refer patients to authorized healthcare providers as needed.
  • Manage performance information, human resources, and financial aspects related to healthcare services.

What You’ll Need

  • An appropriate qualification for registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a medical officer.
  • Current HPCSA registration as a medical practitioner.
  • Basic medical degree (MBBCH or equivalent).
  • For Grade 1: No experience required; for Grade 2: Minimum of 5 years’ experience; for Grade 3: Minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Medical Officer.
  • Computer literacy and a valid driver’s license.
  • Excellent clinical skills and strong communication abilities.
  • Knowledge of public health legislation and financial management.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work collaboratively in a team.
