The Department of Water and Sanitation is seeking a skilled Legal Administrative Officer, based in Bloemfontein, to join its dedicated team. What You’ll Do
- Provide legal support to ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
- Develop standard operating procedures related to legal matters.
- Advise on and draft legal opinions and documents for criminal prosecutions under the National Water Act.
- Draft, vet, and review contracts on behalf of the department.
- Advise, negotiate, and draft multilateral and bilateral agreements.
- Handle litigation matters and appeals for the department.
- Monitor the implementation of the Promotion of Access to Information Act and the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act.
- Develop interventions for legal challenges faced by the department.
What You’ll Need
- LLB or relevant legal qualification.
- At least eight years of appropriate post-qualification legal experience.
- Strong knowledge of policy development, public sector legal processes, and relevant legislation.
- Experience in negotiating and drafting contracts and international instruments.
- Ability to interpret environmental legislation and issues affecting the environment.
- Proficiency in legal research and interpretation, along with strong analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong planning and decision-making skills, with a commitment to accountability and ethical conduct.
