What You’ll Do

  • Lead and manage the clinical trauma and burns services, including Trauma ICU and Burns Resuscitation.
  • Supervise and mentor medical officers, surgical trainees, and specialists rotating through the trauma and burns unit.
  • Ensure adherence to the highest standards of clinical, fiscal, professional, and ethical behavior.
  • Assist in clinical governance and contribute to the education of undergraduate medical students and postgraduate surgical trainees.
  • Drive and stimulate research initiatives within the ethical guidelines of the Health Care Act.
  • Promote trauma prevention education and community awareness.
  • Be physically present for emergency calls and manage unstable cases promptly.

What You’ll Need

  • MBChB Degree or equivalent qualifications.
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Surgery.
  • A minimum of five years’ post-registration experience as a specialist in Trauma and Burns.
  • Higher surgical qualification (FCS(SA) and/or MMed Surgery) and completion of Cert Trauma (SA) or equivalent.
  • Current registration with HPCSA for independent practice in the Trauma surgery discipline.
  • DSTC instructor and ATLS instructor status as per HPCSA rules.
  • Relevant teaching and research experience with evidence of publication.
  • Strong clinical decision-making, communication, and interpersonal skills.
