What You’ll Do

  • Lead and manage the Neurology Clinical Unit to ensure optimal clinical care and governance.
  • Oversee unit administration, staff performance, and service delivery.
  • Provide specialist clinical services, including outpatient care and consultations for neurology emergencies.
  • Participate in after-hours consultant cover to maintain continuous patient care.
  • Train and mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as allied health staff.
  • Develop and implement clinical protocols, such as those for stroke and neuroimmunology.
  • Support clinical audit and quality assurance programmes to enhance service delivery.
  • Collaborate with health system partners, including UKZN and CMSA, for integrated service improvement.
  • Promote and support research and academic development in alignment with UKZN and the College of Neurology.

What You’ll Need

  • MBChB Degree or equivalent qualifications.
  • Registration as a Medical Specialist in Neurology with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
  • A minimum of 5 years’ post-registration experience as a specialist Neurologist.
  • Additional qualifications such as MMed or a PhD will be an advantage.
  • Subspecialty expertise in fields like neurophysiology, stroke, epilepsy, or neuroimmunology.
  • Experience in a tertiary or quaternary academic setting.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance, service development, and academic leadership.
  • Strong clinical decision-making, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and provide clinical training.
