About the Role
The Department Of Environmental Affairs And Development Planning is seeking a dedicated individual for the role of Gate Guard at the Rolfontein Nature Reserve. Located near the picturesque city of Worcester, this position plays a vital role in enhancing the visitor experience at one of South Africa’s treasured natural reserves. By welcoming and assisting guests, you will be an integral part of the community’s efforts to promote environmental awareness and appreciation.
As a Gate Guard, your responsibilities will extend beyond just monitoring entry and exit points; you will serve as the first point of contact for visitors, providing them with valuable information about the reserve. This role not only contributes to the operational efficiency of the reserve but also fosters a sense of safety and security for all who visit. Your work will directly support the mission of preserving South Africa’s natural heritage while engaging the public in meaningful and educational interactions.

What You’ll Do
- Welcome and interact with visitors at the entrance of Rolfontein Nature Reserve.
- Provide information and guidance about the reserve and its attractions.
- Handle revenue collection and maintain accurate records at the entrance gate.
- Assist with the maintenance of the reserve’s infrastructure, including buildings and facilities.
- Support the maintenance team in preserving roads, hiking trails, and general reserve structures.
- Participate in rehabilitation and landscaping programs to maintain the beauty of the reserve.
- Perform administrative tasks and keep tourist information profiles updated.
- Attend training sessions and departmental meetings to enhance skills and stay informed on relevant issues.
What You’ll Need
- A Grade 10 Certificate with some experience in tourism and/or security management.
- A valid Code E driver’s license.
- Willingness to work a revised schedule and adapt to the needs of the reserve.
- Strong communication skills and a passion for customer service.
- Ability to perform manual labour and assist in maintenance tasks.
