What You’ll Do

  • Render catering services by following menus and special dietary plans.
  • Prepare ingredients for meals, including cleaning and cutting vegetables and preparing meat, poultry, and fish.
  • Cook prepared ingredients for consumption and serve food in appropriate crockery.
  • Ensure portion sizes align with stipulated dietary allowances.
  • Pack food delivery trolleys and deliver meals to designated areas within the hospital.
  • Maintain a safe and hygienic environment by collecting used cutlery and crockery from wards and other service areas.
  • Check and ensure the correct number of cutlery and crockery are returned to the kitchen.
  • Wash and dry used equipment, cutlery, and crockery, performing quality checks to meet hygiene standards.
  • Clean the food processing area regularly and report any unhygienic or unsafe conditions to the supervisor.

What You’ll Need

  • NQF Level 1 or 2 (ABET Level 2 certificate or equivalent) with no prior experience required.
  • Knowledge of food services and food preparation.
  • Understanding of food processing equipment operation.
  • Basic health and safety measures, hygiene, and bacterial contamination control.
  • Basic literacy skills and the ability to accurately measure ingredients.
