What You’ll Do

  • Follow menus and special diet plans to prepare and serve meals.
  • Clean and cut vegetables, and prepare meat, poultry, and fish for cooking.
  • Cook and process prepared ingredients to create nutritious meals.
  • Serve food using appropriate crockery and ensure portion sizes meet dietary allowances.
  • Pack food delivery trolleys and deliver meals to designated areas within the hospital.
  • Collect used cutlery and crockery from various service areas and return them to the kitchen.
  • Wash and dry used equipment, cutlery, and crockery, ensuring cleanliness standards are met.
  • Perform regular checks to maintain safety and sanitation standards in the food processing area.
  • Report any unhygienic or unsafe conditions to your supervisor.

What You’ll Need

  • NQF level 1 or 2 (ABET level 2 certificate or equivalent).
  • Basic knowledge of food services and food preparation techniques.
  • Familiarity with operating food processing equipment.
  • Understanding of basic health and safety measures related to food hygiene.
  • Basic literacy and the ability to measure ingredients accurately.
