What You’ll Do

  • Prepare ingredients for meals, including cleaning and cutting vegetables and preparing meat, poultry, and fish.
  • Cook and process prepared ingredients for patient meals.
  • Serve meals in the appropriate crockery while adhering to dietary allowances.
  • Pack food delivery trolleys and ensure correct meal delivery to designated areas within the hospital.
  • Maintain a safe and hygienic kitchen environment by collecting used cutlery and crockery.
  • Wash and dry kitchen equipment, ensuring compliance with cleanliness standards.
  • Conduct quality checks to confirm that all cleaning processes meet health and safety regulations.
  • Regularly clean food processing areas and report any unhygienic conditions to supervisors.

What You’ll Need

  • NQF level 1 or 2 (ABET level 2 certificate or equivalent).
  • Basic knowledge of food services and food preparation techniques.
  • Understanding of health and safety measures, including hygiene and bacterial contamination control.
  • Basic literacy and ability to operate food processing equipment effectively.
  • Capability to measure ingredients accurately and follow dietary guidelines.
