What You’ll Do

  • Prepare ingredients for meals, including cleaning and cutting vegetables and preparing meats, poultry, and fish.
  • Follow menus and special diet plans to ensure proper nutrition for patients.
  • Cook prepared ingredients and serve food in appropriate crockery.
  • Pack food delivery trolleys and distribute meals to various areas within the hospital.
  • Maintain a safe and hygienic environment by collecting used cutlery and crockery, and ensuring cleanliness in the food processing area.
  • Conduct quality checks to confirm the adherence to health and safety standards.
  • Report any unhygienic or unsafe conditions to your supervisor promptly.

What You’ll Need

  • An NQF level 1 or 2 qualification (or equivalent) with no prior work experience required.
  • Basic knowledge of food services and food preparation techniques.
  • Understanding of health and safety measures in food handling environments.
  • Ability to measure ingredients accurately and operate food processing equipment.
  • Basic literacy skills to follow dietary guidelines and menus effectively.
