About the Role

The Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning is seeking dedicated individuals for the role of Field Ranger. This position is based at the Thabazimbi Service Centre and the Lephalale Service Centre, both located within the Waterberg District of Limpopo. As a Field Ranger, you will play a crucial role in managing damage-causing animals and ensuring the balance of wildlife in our communities. This role not only contributes to environmental preservation but also supports local economies that depend on wildlife and tourism.

In this position, you will be actively involved in field patrols, monitoring hunting activities, and conducting inspections. Your work will directly impact our ability to regulate wildlife resources, ensuring that both the ecosystem and local communities thrive. What You’ll Do

• Manage and monitor damage-causing animals to protect local livestock and crops.
• Assist in gathering and processing information related to animal complaints.
• Conduct field patrols to observe wildlife activities and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Liaise with stakeholders, including farmers and wildlife enthusiasts, to promote cooperative management practices.
• Monitor hunting-related activities and game capture operations for compliance with legal standards.
• Conduct inspections of game farms and taxidermists to ensure adherence to regulations.
• Investigate cases involving professional hunters and hunting outfitters, ensuring ethical practices.

What You’ll Need

• A Grade 12 qualification recognized by SAQA.
• A game ranging certificate and valid firearm competency certificate (handgun, rifle, shotgun).
• A valid driver’s license (except for candidates with disabilities).
• An NQF 6 qualification in Nature Conservation is an advantage.
• An EMI certificate will also be advantageous.
• Knowledge in tracking and firearm handling, with strong report writing skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness to work irregular hours, including weekends and public holidays, and travel as required.
