The Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning is excited to announce multiple openings for the role of Field Ranger at various nature reserves, including Atherstone Nature Reserve and Makapans Valley WHS, among others. Based in the stunning landscapes of Limpopo, these roles are crucial for the protection and management of our natural resources. As a Field Ranger, you will play an essential role in ensuring the safety and sustainability of these environments, contributing to the overall health of South Africa’s rich biodiversity.
Working in the heart of nature reserves, you will not only assist in law enforcement operations and visitor management but also engage in vital ecological monitoring and rehabilitation programs. What You’ll Do
- Assist in the protection of the nature reserve and its natural resources.
- Conduct law enforcement operations and nature conservation patrols.
- Inspect and repair boundary fences to ensure reserve integrity.
- Maintain infrastructure and manage visitor behaviour within the reserves.
- Report non-compliance and assist with fire management services.
- Monitor ecological processes, habitats, and biodiversity.
- Identify and implement ecological rehabilitation programs, such as alien plant removal.
- Contribute to wildlife management and conservation programs.
What You’ll Need
- An NQF 4 qualification (Grade 12 / ABET / AET level 3) or equivalent recognized by SAQA.
- Valid SAPS Firearm Competency Certificate for handguns, rifles, or shotguns.
- A valid driver’s license (except for applicants with disabilities).
- Physical fitness and no criminal record are essential.
- Experience in conservation management programs is an added advantage.
- A conservation training certificate from an accredited institution is essential.
- Knowledge of nature reserve management and relevant legislation.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
