The Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning is looking for a dedicated Environmental Officer Specialized Production to join its team at the Head Office in Polokwane. This vital role focuses on managing the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process, ensuring that environmental authorizations are accurately drafted and implemented. By overseeing and disseminating crucial information related to environmental impact management, this position plays a key part in protecting our natural resources and promoting sustainable development in the Limpopo region.

As an Environmental Officer, you will engage with various stakeholders, including local authorities and Environmental Assessment Practitioners, to guide them through the complexities of environmental management. What You’ll Do

  • Manage the EIA process and draft environmental authorizations and conditions.
  • Provide technical and procedural advice to stakeholders, including local authorities and EAPs.
  • Conduct site inspections and compile detailed site visit reports.
  • Review and evaluate environmental authorization applications and associated documentation.
  • Assess Environmental Management Programmes for various applications, including mining and municipal projects.
  • Oversee records management and facilitate resources in accordance with relevant legislation.
  • Implement other Integrated Environmental Management tools as necessary.

What You’ll Need

  • An NQF 6 qualification in Natural Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Law, Environmental Science, Biodiversity, or a related field recognized by SAQA.
  • EAPASA registration in terms of S24H of NEMA.
  • Between three to five years of experience in Environmental Quality Management.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental legislation and the EIA process.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in computer literacy and project management.
  • Strong analytical, conflict management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to produce thorough and legally defensible documents.
