The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment is seeking an Environmental Officer Grade: Specialised Production based in the Harry Gwala, Umzinyathi, and Zululand districts of KwaZulu-Natal. What You’ll Do
- Conduct compliance monitoring and proactive sector compliance inspections.
- Carry out criminal investigations in accordance with established protocols and departmental mandates.
- Prepare legally defensible pre-notices, notices, directives, and other administrative correspondence related to enforcement processes.
- Engage in compliance promotion and awareness campaigns within the community.
- Perform various administrative functions related to enforcement and compliance management.
What You’ll Need
- An appropriate degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Law, Natural Sciences, or Environmental Sciences.
- A minimum of three years’ experience in Environmental Management, with at least one year as an Environmental Management Inspector (EMI) within Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement.
- Designation as an Environmental Management Inspector is required; Honours or Postgraduate qualifications will be an advantage.
- A valid driver’s license (code B).
- Strong understanding of the National Environmental Management Act, Criminal Procedure Act, and relevant public service regulations.
- Excellent communication skills, analytical abilities, and proficiency in report writing and project management.
