What You’ll Do
- Provide technical and regulatory advice on animal products, including live animals and genetic material.
- Support the genetic integrity of livestock through advisory services and training for farmers and stakeholders.
- Evaluate donor animals to ensure the quality of genetic products like semen, ova, and embryos.
- Monitor and manage the packaging, labeling, and storage of genetic materials in compliance with legal standards.
- Assist with the administration of permits for the import and export of animal products, ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with clients and industry stakeholders on animal improvement matters.
- Communicate technical and legislative issues effectively within the agricultural sector.
- Engage with research institutions and international regulatory bodies to enhance animal improvement initiatives.
- Supervise junior staff and maintain accurate records and databases related to animal products and reproduction operators.
What You’ll Need
- A BSc Agric in Animal Production/Animal Science or a BTech in Animal Science or an Advanced Diploma in Animal Science.
- Registration with SACNASP.
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in the field.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Animal Improvement Act, 1998, and related regulations.
- Proficiency in computer applications and basic legal document protocols.
- Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) and the ability to engage effectively with the livestock industry.
- Creative problem-solving abilities and sound planning and organizational skills.
