What You’ll Do

  • Manage waste effectively, ensuring proper handling and monitoring of both general and healthcare risk waste.
  • Oversee Safety, Health, Environment, Risk, and Quality (SHERQ) management practices.
  • Conduct waste quality monitoring by collecting and analyzing water samples.
  • Implement food control measures by inspecting food premises and training staff on safety protocols.
  • Organize and oversee pest control programs to manage vector control within the facility.
  • Participate in disease surveillance as part of the outbreak response team, investigating outbreaks and collaborating with relevant stakeholders.
  • Monitor environmental health indicators and prepare reports for management.
  • Ensure compliance with pollution control and maintain high standards of environmental health hygiene.
  • Conduct occupational hygiene surveillance to safeguard both staff and patients.

What You’ll Need

  • A Senior Certificate or equivalent qualification.
  • A Diploma or Degree in Environmental Health or a qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
  • Current registration as an Independent Environmental Health Practitioner for the 2026/2027 period.
  • Relevant experience is required; South African qualified employees may have no experience post-registration, while foreign qualified employees need one year of relevant experience.
  • Hospital experience and knowledge in Occupational Health and Safety is advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Willingness to travel and possess a valid driver’s license.
