About the Role

The Department of Health is seeking a dedicated Environmental Health Practitioner Grade 1: Malaria to join their team at the Mbombela–Masoyi Control Station in the Ehlanzeni District. In this vital role, you will coordinate and supervise malaria programme field teams, ensuring that effective disease surveillance, vector control, and case management activities are conducted. Your contribution will play a significant role in the health of the community, helping to reduce the burden of malaria and improve public health.

As part of your responsibilities, you will plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate malaria elimination interventions according to national and provincial policies. What You’ll Do

• Coordinate and supervise malaria programme field teams focused on disease surveillance and vector control.
• Plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate malaria elimination interventions in line with established policies.
• Oversee Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) operations, ensuring quality assurance and effective reporting.
• Conduct malaria disease surveillance activities, including case notification and outbreak response.
• Participate in community-based malaria screening, testing, and treatment activities.
• Support active case detection and follow-up of malaria cases to interrupt local transmission.
• Lead entomological surveillance activities, including mosquito collections and resistance surveillance.
• Implement malaria health promotion and community mobilization initiatives.
• Supervise programme personnel, providing mentorship and technical guidance.
• Manage procurement planning and distribution of malaria programme materials.

What You’ll Need

• A National Diploma in Environmental Health or Public Health, with HPCSA registration as an Independent Environmental Health Practitioner.
• Current HPCSA registration as an Independent Environmental Health Practitioner.
• A valid driver’s license and computer literacy.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of communicable disease control and environmental health legislation.
• Ability to supervise field teams and work independently under pressure.
• Experience in malaria control, disease surveillance, or health promotion is advantageous.
