About the Role
The Department of Agriculture is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual for the role of Director: Spatial Planning and Land Use Management, located in Mmabatho, North West. This pivotal position involves providing vital spatial planning, land use management, and environmental services that directly impact the well-being of communities across the province. This role not only ensures compliance with essential legislation such as the Spatial Planning and Land Use Management Act (SPLUMA) but also plays a crucial part in shaping sustainable and integrated spatial development in South Africa.
As the Director, you will work closely with both national and provincial offices, enabling effective communication and collaboration to support municipalities in utilizing spatial planning tools and guidelines. What You’ll Do
- Lead spatial planning initiatives and enforce compliance with SPLUMA provisions.
- Provide support and technical expertise to municipalities in land use management.
- Facilitate the development and implementation of spatial development frameworks and land use schemes.
- Coordinate intergovernmental relations and support across relevant stakeholders.
- Offer Geographic Information Science (GISc) technical support and services to enhance spatial planning efforts.
- Conduct spatial analysis and mapping services to inform decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with the National Environmental Management Act and related environmental legislation.
- Assist in the establishment of functional Land Use Regulators within municipalities.
What You’ll Need
- A Grade 12 certificate and a Bachelor’s Degree in Town and Regional Planning, Urban and Regional Planning, or Geographical Information Science (GISc).
- A Nyukela certificate (Pre-entry Certificate to the SMS) submitted prior to appointment.
- Registration with the South African Council for Planners (SACPLAN) as a Professional Planner or with the South African Geomatics Council as a Professional Geomatics Professional: GISc.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a middle/senior managerial role in Town and Regional Planning or a GISc environment.
- Strong strategic planning, leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication abilities and a high level of computer literacy.
- A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel locally and internationally.
