What You’ll Do

• Provide strategic legal leadership and direction to the Directorate: Legal Services.
• Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary legal team to ensure optimal performance.
• Develop and implement the legal services operational plan and annual performance targets.
• Report on all legal matters affecting the department to senior management.
• Oversee the management of the legal services budget, resources, and assets.
• Provide expert legal opinions and advice to senior management and the MEC.
• Conduct legal research and draft agreements, contracts, and policies.
• Ensure compliance with legislation in all departmental activities, including procurement processes.
• Manage litigation matters and coordinate with external legal representatives.
• Facilitate relationships with internal and external stakeholders on legal matters.

What You’ll Need

• Matric certificate and an NQF Level 7 qualification in Legal/Law (LLB) or equivalent.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in a middle/senior managerial role within a legal services environment.
• Valid Driver’s license and Nyukela SMS pre-entry certificate.
• Comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation and public service regulations.
• Strong leadership, strategic planning, and organizational skills.
• Excellent report writing, communication, and negotiation skills.
• In-depth understanding of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and related legislation.
