What You’ll Do

  • Manage and engage in international relations operations within the department.
  • Plan, coordinate, and provide feedback on international engagements related to multilateral and bilateral issues.
  • Facilitate alignment with South African foreign policy objectives while maintaining strong diplomatic relations.
  • Draft, negotiate, and secure sign-off for international agreements and memoranda of understanding.
  • Ensure compliance with reporting requests from the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) and the Department of Defence.
  • Oversee visits from foreign dignitaries and coordinate official visits of South African dignitaries abroad.
  • Provide protocol services for key international engagements involving the Minister, Deputy Minister, and Director General.
  • Analyze global affairs and advise on geopolitical issues to foster international cooperation.
  • Develop and review policies and governance processes for the Chief Directorate, ensuring effective risk and compliance management.
  • Manage human, physical, and financial resources within the branch efficiently.

What You’ll Need

  • An undergraduate qualification in International Relations, Political Science, Public Administration, Management, or related fields at an NQF level 7.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a middle or senior managerial role.
  • In-depth knowledge of the South African Constitution and relevant public service legislative frameworks.
  • Understanding of key legislation, including the Births and Deaths Registration Act, Identification Act, and anti-corruption legislation.
  • Strong project management skills and experience with online systems.
  • A valid driver’s license is an added advantage, along with a willingness to travel and work extended hours.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, alongside strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
