About the Role

The National Prosecuting Authority is seeking a dedicated individual for the position of Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions in Polokwane, Limpopo. As a Deputy Director, you will support the mission of the NPA by managing a portfolio assigned by the Director, overseeing the prosecution of serious criminal matters, and ensuring that legal proceedings are conducted with the utmost professionalism and integrity. In this senior role, you will be responsible for guiding and mentoring a team of Advocates and Prosecutors, particularly in complex and high-profile cases. What You’ll Do

• Manage a portfolio assigned by the Director, overseeing complex and high-profile cases.
• Train and guide Advocates and Prosecutors in all aspects of legal matters.
• Investigate and prosecute cases, ensuring thorough legal oversight.
• Study case dockets and documents related to corruption and criminal matters.
• Prepare and draft charge sheets, indictments, and other court documents.
• Present the state’s case in court, including the examination of witnesses.
• Conduct appeals and reviews, preparing legal opinions and arguments.
• Lead strategic planning for the division, aligning resources with objectives.
• Manage the performance and development of staff members.
• Promote collaboration and community involvement within the criminal justice system.

What You’ll Need

• An LLB degree or an appropriate legal qualification for serving prosecutors.
• At least ten (10) years’ post-qualification experience in civil and/or criminal litigation.
• Knowledge and experience in strategic and operations management.
• Right of appearance as per section 25(2) of the NPA Act, 32 of 1998.
• Strong advocacy and legal drafting skills.
• Demonstrable competency in acting independently and professionally.
• Valid driver’s license and good interpersonal communication skills.
