About the Role
The KZN Provincial Treasury is seeking a dedicated Deputy Director: Municipal Accounting & Reporting in Pietermaritzburg. This pivotal role is essential for ensuring that municipalities across KwaZulu-Natal can compile their Annual Financial Statements (AFS) in strict alignment with the Generally Recognised Accounting Practice (GRAP) Standards. By coordinating financial management support and audit readiness, you will be directly contributing to the effective governance and financial health of local municipalities, ultimately benefiting the communities they serve.

What You’ll Do
- Coordinate the support provided to municipalities for compiling Annual Financial Statements in accordance with GRAP Standards.
- Oversee financial management support to municipalities, enhancing their fiscal health and operational efficiency.
- Lead audit readiness initiatives and reviews, ensuring municipalities are prepared for financial audits.
- Facilitate consultative support and maintain effective communication with key stakeholders.
- Manage resources within the Sub Directorate, ensuring optimal performance and service delivery.
What You’ll Need
- A 3-year NQF7 qualification in Financial Accounting or Financial Management.
- A valid driver’s license; assistance will be provided for candidates with disabilities who cannot drive.
- At least 3 years of junior management experience in a municipal financial reporting/accounting/management environment.
- Extensive understanding of GRAP standards and public sector financial management principles.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in financial management systems and relevant legislation.
