The Department of Home Affairs is seeking a dedicated individual for the position of Deputy Director: Appeals, based at the Head Office in Tshwane. What You’ll Do
- Manage the processing of Permanent Residence Permit appeals effectively and efficiently.
- Review initial decisions and ensure that all supporting documents are complete and accurate.
- Conduct thorough assessments to determine the validity of appeals and make informed decisions.
- Monitor deadlines and ensure that decisions are issued within prescribed timelines.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders regarding the PRP appeals process.
- Implement effective risk management and compliance measures in line with legislative requirements.
- Oversee the management of human, physical, and financial resources within the unit.
- Coach and guide staff on best practices and adherence to regulatory requirements.
What You’ll Need
- An undergraduate qualification in Law, Public Management, or a related field at NQF level 6, recognized by SAQA.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience at a Junior Management or Assistant Director level, particularly in law or immigration analysis.
- Strong knowledge of the Constitution of South Africa, Immigration Act, and Refugee Act.
- Understanding of relevant departmental policies, legislative frameworks, and international conventions.
- Proven skills in people management, service delivery innovation, and client orientation.
- Competence in financial management, project management, and effective communication.
- Willingness to travel and work extended hours as required.

Requirements
An undergraduate qualification in Law, Public Management, Public, Administration, Policing, Criminology, Forensics, Criminal Justice at NQF level 6 equivalent as recognized by SAQA.3 years’ experience at Junior Management/ Assistant Director Level in Law, analysis and interpretation of immigration information is required.
Knowledge of the Constitution of South Africa.

The successful candidate will be responsible for, amongst others, the following specific tasks: Manage the processing Permanent Residence Permit appeals.Ensure the effective management and handling of Permanent Residence Permit (PRP) appeals.

Ensure and verify the completeness, accuracy, and legality of submitted.

Manage and ensure that detailed assessments are conducted to determine whether a decision should be upheld, modified.
Monitor deadlines and ensure decisions are issued within prescribed timelines.
Establish and maintain good working relationship with all the relevant stakeholders regarding PRP appeals process.

Ensure effective and efficient management of human, physical and financial resources within the Unit.
