What You’ll Do
- Manage the hunting industry and oversee compliance with relevant regulations.
- Monitor game hunts and assess the impact on local wildlife populations.
- Supervise the management of damage-causing animals to mitigate conflicts with communities.
- Facilitate the establishment and operation of wildlife centres.
- Conduct game capture operations and manage translocations of wildlife.
- Collect specimens for forensic analysis related to wildlife crimes.
- Implement international agreements such as CITES to protect endangered species.
- Manage the permit processing systems for wildlife conservation activities.
- Ensure proper marking, registration, and issuance of permits for elephant ivory and rhino horns.
- Oversee the management of financial, human, and physical resources within the department.
What You’ll Need
- An NQF 6 qualification in Nature Conservation, Environmental Science, Natural Science, Biodiversity Management, Wildlife Management, or an equivalent qualification recognized by SAQA.
- A valid SAPS Firearm Competency Certificate (Rifle) is mandatory.
- A minimum of six years’ experience in biodiversity, conservation, or environmental fields, including three years in hunting and wildlife permitting.
- Knowledge of provincial and national biodiversity legislation, CITES, and environmental policies is essential.
- Computer literacy and excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work irregular hours and travel as required.
- Strong managerial skills, stakeholder engagement abilities, and interpersonal relations.
