What You’ll Do

  • Compile, plan, and implement the district events calendar to promote departmental activities.
  • Support and coordinate various departmental events and initiatives.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of events to improve future engagements.
  • Write articles and content for the departmental newsletter and other publications.
  • Source and manage information for the department’s intranet and website.
  • Develop a comprehensive image bank showcasing departmental officials and events.
  • Manage the departmental media profile and cultivate relationships with media representatives.
  • Provide journalistic support for events in the districts, ensuring accurate coverage.
  • Conduct regular media monitoring and feedback sessions to enhance communication efforts.
  • Update and maintain an up-to-date media contact list.
  • Create engaging content and visuals for the department’s social media platforms.
  • Build networks for effective communication at the district level.

What You’ll Need

  • An NQF Level 6 qualification in Communication, Journalism, Media Studies, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in a communication-related role.
  • Photographic skills and registration with PRISA are advantageous.
  • A valid driver’s license (except for candidates with disabilities).
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and a solid understanding of government legislation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively.
  • Excellent presentation and report writing abilities.
  • Analytical thinking and good negotiation skills.
  • Adaptability and strategic thinking to meet communication goals.
