The Chief Engineer Grade A (Electrical) position is proudly offered by the Department of Transport and Public Works, located at the Head Office in Cape Town. What You’ll Do
- Develop, interpret, and customize functional and technical norms and standards for electrical engineering.
- Investigate and evaluate proposals for innovative service delivery mechanisms.
- Undertake feasibility studies to assess project viability and sustainability.
- Compile briefing documentation and technical specifications for engineering projects.
- Oversee the implementation and commissioning of electrical engineering installations.
- Conduct research to stay current with new technologies and procedures in the field.
- Liaise with professional councils and boards to ensure compliance with engineering standards.
What You’ll Need
- A Degree in Electrical Engineering (B Eng/BSc Eng) is required.
- Registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Professional Engineer.
- A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience post-registration as a Professional Engineer.
- A valid driver’s license (Code B/EB) and a willingness to travel within the Western Cape and occasionally nationally.
- Proficiency in MS Office and strong computer skills.
- Familiarity with the design and construction of complex buildings.
- Experience with feasibility studies, life cycle costing, and Green Building technologies.
- Strong report writing and presentation skills in English.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
