The Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA) is seeking a Chief Engineer (Civil) for a pivotal role based in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. This position is essential for ensuring that civil engineering services align with South African policies, acts, and regulations. As a Chief Engineer, you will play a critical role in diagnosing and improving the performance of municipalities, ensuring that infrastructure planning, development, and operations are efficient and sustainable. In this leadership position, you will lead strategic initiatives aimed at municipal support across the infrastructure lifecycle. This includes providing oversight on feasibility studies, design and development, implementation, and ongoing operation and maintenance of municipal projects. By managing these processes effectively, you will help to build resilient communities and contribute to the overall advancement of public infrastructure in South Africa.

What You’ll Do

• Provide strategic direction for civil engineering services in municipalities.
• Manage the diagnostic processes for identifying poorly performing municipalities.
• Oversee assessments of municipal infrastructure planning and development.
• Lead the implementation and maintenance of municipal support throughout the infrastructure lifecycle.
• Develop, review, and implement municipal sector master plans.
• Ensure compliance with engineering norms, standards, and regulations.

What You’ll Need

• An appropriate Civil Engineering Degree (B Eng/BSc Eng) or equivalent qualification at NQF 7 recognized by SAQA.
• At least six years of relevant post-qualification experience in civil engineering.
• Compulsory registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Professional Engineer.
• Strong leadership and people management skills.
• Proficiency in project management and financial management.
• Excellent communication skills and a client-oriented approach.
• In-depth knowledge of engineering design, analysis, and contract management.
