About the Role
The Department of Education is seeking a dedicated and strategic individual for the role of Chief Director: Curriculum Implementation and Monitoring, based in Pretoria. This pivotal position plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of Basic Education for children from the ages of 0 to 4 through Grades R to 12. The successful candidate will lead initiatives aimed at improving teacher capacity, increasing learner participation, and success rates to align with the National Development Plan and Action Plan 2019 towards Schooling 2030. This role is integral to ensuring that every child in South Africa has access to quality education, setting the foundation for lifelong learning and success.
In this role, you will work closely with various state institutions, national and international bodies, as well as non-governmental organizations (NGOs). What You’ll Do
- Provide strategic leadership and guidance to the Chief Directorate for Curriculum Implementation and Monitoring.
- Enhance teacher capacity and improve teaching practices across the education spectrum.
- Collaborate with state institutions and NGOs to drive educational improvements.
- Develop and implement Norms and Standards in line with the National Education Policy Act.
- Strengthen school-based assessments to enhance the quality of teaching.
- Promote the use of data to inform teaching quality and efficiency.
- Ensure the development and maintenance of policies for effective curriculum implementation.
- Improve access to Early Childhood Development (ECD) programs and inclusive education.
- Monitor learner enrollment rates and promote grade progression from Grade 1 to 9.
- Oversee the implementation of the IIAL and GET Strategy to ensure learner eligibility for higher education.
What You’ll Need
- A relevant Bachelor’s degree (NQF level 7) or an equivalent qualification recognized by SAQA.
- A minimum of five years’ experience in a senior managerial role with high-level planning and management responsibilities.
- Extensive knowledge of the South African education policy framework, curriculum development, and support mechanisms.
- Strong competencies in knowledge management, service delivery innovation, and problem-solving.
- Exceptional strategic capability, leadership, and project management skills.
