What You’ll Do

  • Initiate, research, develop, and produce news and feature content for various GCIS platforms.
  • Attend government briefings, media events, and official programmes across the country.
  • Conduct interviews and research to gather information for news stories.
  • Write accurate and balanced news articles that adhere to departmental standards.
  • Create multimedia content, including text, photographs, and videos, for digital platforms.
  • File content under tight deadlines while maintaining high editorial standards.
  • Collaborate with government communicators and stakeholders to strengthen government messaging.
  • Utilize digital reporting and content production tools effectively.

What You’ll Need

  • National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Journalism, Communication, or a related field.
  • A minimum of three years’ journalistic experience in print, broadcast, or digital media, with at least one year at a supervisory level.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, email, and internet-based research.
  • Strong knowledge of government policies, current affairs, and the South African media landscape.
  • Excellent English writing skills, with the ability to produce engaging content.
  • Experience in multimedia content production, including basic photography and video editing.
  • Strong interviewing skills and the ability to engage with senior government officials.
  • Flexibility to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines, including availability for after-hours work.
  • Valid driver’s licence and proficiency in two official South African languages is an advantage.
