About the Role
The Department of International Relations and Cooperation is currently seeking an Assistant Director for Middle East Bilateral Relations, based in Sunnyside, Pretoria. This pivotal role is instrumental in enhancing South Africa’s diplomatic ties and trade relations with Middle Eastern nations. What You’ll Do
- Conduct research and analysis on foreign trade, focusing on the Middle East region.
- Compile and draft briefings, reports, and meeting minutes related to bilateral relations.
- Maintain and nurture relationships with foreign governments and stakeholders.
- Provide support in technical negotiations and consultations.
- Coordinate Bilateral Commission activities, preparing progress reports and action plans.
- Contribute to operational reporting to inform decision-making processes.
What You’ll Need
- A qualification at NQF Level 7 in Economics, International Relations, or International Law with a focus on Economics.
- 3-5 years of experience in international relations or law within the public or private sector.
- Proven experience in conducting foreign trade research and economic analysis.
- Strong ability to prepare country briefings and policy inputs.
- Experience in stakeholder engagement with foreign missions and internal stakeholders.
- Project coordination and implementation experience for bilateral programs.
- Excellent analytical and report-writing skills, with proficiency in MS Office and research tools.
- Willingness to travel locally and internationally as required.
