The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform is seeking a dedicated Senior Restitution Advisor to join its team in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga. This role is pivotal in ensuring legal compliance with the Restitution of Land Rights Act, which plays a crucial part in addressing historical injustices related to land ownership in South Africa. As a Senior Restitution Advisor, you will work daily to facilitate negotiations and uphold the rights of land claimants, ensuring that justice is served and that the community benefits from responsible land reform.

What You’ll Do

• Ensure compliance with the Restitution of Land Rights Act and related legal frameworks.
• Review and assess stakeholder engagement reports and legal documents.
• Attend negotiations with landowners and farmers to facilitate land restitution processes.
• Prepare legal documents, including expropriation notices and settlement agreements.
• Monitor and manage the transfer of land and financial compensation files.
• Participate in court proceedings and provide legal responses where necessary.
• Collaborate with research institutions to gather data for policy development.
• Draft legal opinions and memoranda to support case progress and decision-making.
• Facilitate workshops and elections for Communal Property Associations (CPAs).
• Conduct research on special projects related to land reform and expropriation.

What You’ll Need

• A Grade 12 Certificate and an appropriate LLB or B Proc Degree (NQF Level 7) or equivalent qualification.
• A minimum of 6 years post-qualification legal experience, with at least 4 years in a supervisory role.
• Extensive knowledge of the Restitution of Land Rights Act and relevant South African laws.
• Proven experience in court litigation and document vetting.
• Strong drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and readiness to work under pressure.
• A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as required.
