What You’ll Do

  • Render interpreting services in various legal contexts, including Children’s Act matters, criminal proceedings, and domestic violence cases.
  • Interpret during court proceedings, pre-trial consultations, and disciplinary hearings to ensure clear communication.
  • Translate legal documents and exhibits, ensuring accuracy and adherence to legal standards.
  • Develop and maintain a glossary of legal terminology to support consistent interpretation.
  • Liaise with supervisors and other interpreters to coordinate language assistance as needed.
  • Provide support in the reconstruction of court records and maintain documentation of proceedings.

What You’ll Need

  • A National Diploma in Legal Interpreting or an equivalent qualification recognized by SAQA.
  • A minimum of one year of experience as a Court Interpreter, or alternatively, a Grade 12 certificate with at least ten years of practical experience in court interpreting.
  • Proficiency in English and isiXhosa; knowledge of additional languages such as isiZulu or Afrikaans is an advantage.
  • Strong communication, time management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer literacy, particularly in MS Office, and the ability to work under pressure.
