About the Role
The Department of Transport is excited to announce three vacancies for the position of Road Works Foreman, located in the Sekhukhune district, specifically in Tsimanyane and Groblersdal Roads Maintenance, as well as Ba-Phalaborwa Roads Maintenance in the Mopani district. This role is crucial to ensuring the safety and quality of our road infrastructure, which serves as a lifeline for communities across South Africa. As a Road Works Foreman, you will play an integral part in maintaining and enhancing our roads, thereby contributing to the well-being and connectivity of the people in these areas.
In this position, you will oversee and support various road construction and maintenance activities that directly impact the daily lives of residents. By ensuring that roads are safe, accessible, and well-maintained, you help facilitate trade, education, and emergency services. What You’ll Do
- Support road construction and maintenance projects, including the construction of culverts and side drains.
- Erect and maintain steel guardrails and gabions to enhance road safety.
- Ensure the proper construction of road earth and layer works.
- Clean and maintain roads, sidewalks, and resting areas to provide safe environments.
- Perform surfacing and pothole patching to prolong road lifespan.
- Implement road fencing and pipe laying as part of project requirements.
- Set road markings and install road signs while managing work area barricades.
- Supervise all activities related to road construction or maintenance, ensuring safety protocols are followed.
- Conduct inspections and maintain control over tools, supplies, and equipment.
- Allocate tasks and oversee the performance of team members, ensuring efficiency and quality.
- Coordinate the blading program and manage equipment maintenance.
What You’ll Need
- A qualification at NQF level 04 as recognized by SAQA.
- A minimum of three years of experience in road works maintenance.
- A valid driver’s license (with exceptions for applicants with disabilities).
- Knowledge of relevant Acts and regulations, as well as road maintenance manuals.
- Familiarity with road operating machinery and health and safety measures.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to make sound decisions.
- Effective team leadership and communication skills.
- Experience in planning, organizing, and managing conflicts within a team setting.

Requirements
