The Department of Health is seeking a dedicated Principal Psychologist to join the team at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital (IALCH) in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. What You’ll Do
- Manage and oversee psychological interventions for patients at IALCH, ensuring high-quality care.
- Lead the Department of Clinical Psychology, implementing safe and effective policies and procedures.
- Conduct training and development for clinical psychologists, including orientation and capacity building.
- Facilitate effective communication across departments and with various stakeholders.
- Develop preventative and promotive psychological health programmes tailored to patient needs.
- Participate in clinical governance programmes, ensuring adherence to best practices.
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to manage complex patient cases.
What You’ll Need
- A Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology.
- Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and current registration as a clinical psychologist.
- At least 3 years of post-registration experience in a clinical psychology role.
- Competence in psychodiagnostics and psychotherapeutics for both adults and children.
- Knowledge of behavioural medicine and relevant hospital protocols.
- Supervisory experience and strong administrative skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficiency in computer literacy and good interpersonal skills.
- Experience with oncology, renal, and palliative care patients is advantageous.
