What You’ll Do

• Manage psychiatric care and treatment for mental health users in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Conduct evaluations, management, care, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients.
• Supervise and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of mental health care providers.
• Lead ward rounds and coordinate the Specialist Psychiatry Outpatients Clinic.
• Teach and mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students in clinical psychiatry.
• Perform administrative tasks related to patient management and academic programs.
• Address patient complaints and ensure a high standard of care in line with national standards.
• Engage in research and contribute to academic publications and databases.
• Coordinate staff allocations and support recruitment and retention in the department.

What You’ll Need

• A Grade 12 certificate.
• An appropriate qualification for registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Psychiatry.
• Master of Medicine in Psychiatry (MMedPsych) or Fellowship of the College of Psychiatrists of South Africa (FCPsychSA).
• Teaching ability and experience in training undergraduate and postgraduate students.
• Registration with HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Psychiatry (Grade 1: no experience required; Grade 2: 5 years experience; Grade 3: 10 years experience).
• A commitment to continuous professional development and research.
