What You’ll Do

• Evaluate new patients at the eye clinic and oversee their journey through surgery
• Perform essential pre-operative tests, including immersion biometry and OCT scans
• Manage post-operative care and monitor patients with chronic conditions
• Conduct various ophthalmological procedures such as Goldman applanation tonometry and YAG laser treatments
• Assist in cataract surgeries and provide intra-ocular injections under supervision
• Support the clinic’s administration, including ordering special lenses and managing referrals
• Handle inpatient admissions and discharges as necessary

What You’ll Need

• An appropriate qualification allowing registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner
• Registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner
• For Grade 1: No experience required post-registration for SA-qualified candidates; 1-year relevant experience for foreign-qualified candidates
• For Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years’ experience for SA-qualified candidates; 6 years for foreign-qualified candidates
• For Grade 3: At least 10 years’ experience for SA-qualified candidates; 11 years for foreign-qualified candidates
• Willingness to perform commuted overtime and work shifts
• A Diploma in Ophthalmology or similar qualification
• Strong knowledge of ophthalmology and effective communication skills
• Basic clinical and surgical experience in ophthalmology, particularly in cataract surgery
