What You’ll Do

  • Draft and amend legislation administered by the Department, guiding it through the legislative process.
  • Review and provide comments on draft legislation from other departments to ensure alignment with departmental policies.
  • Render legal advice and opinions to the MEC, top management, and departmental staff on matters related to legislation and legal processes.
  • Handle litigation cases on behalf of the Department, representing its interests effectively.
  • Draft and review contracts to ensure compliance with legal standards and departmental requirements.
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports on legal activities to the Director.

What You’ll Need

  • A Senior Certificate / Grade 12 along with an LLB Degree.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of post-graduate legal experience, particularly in legislative drafting and as an in-house legal advisor.
  • Specialized knowledge of the legislative drafting process and relevant legislation administered by the Department.
  • Familiarity with government procurement systems, the South African Legal System, and key legislative frameworks such as the Constitution and Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, strategic thinking, and leadership abilities.
  • Proficiency in legal research and drafting, with excellent problem-solving and dispute resolution skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce detailed reports.
  • Computer literacy and a valid driver’s license are essential.
