What You’ll Do

  • Prepare and serve meals according to prescribed menus and dietary plans.
  • Clean, cut, and prepare ingredients such as vegetables, meat, and fish for cooking.
  • Cook and process ingredients to create nutritious meals for patients.
  • Ensure meals are served in appropriate crockery and that portion sizes adhere to dietary guidelines.
  • Pack and deliver food trolleys to designated areas within the hospital.
  • Maintain a hygienic environment by collecting and washing used cutlery and crockery.
  • Perform regular cleaning of the food processing area and equipment.
  • Conduct quality checks to ensure food safety and sanitation standards are met.
  • Report any issues related to hygiene or safety to the supervisor promptly.

What You’ll Need

  • An NQF level 1 or 2 qualification (ABET level 2 certificate or equivalent).
  • Basic knowledge of food services, food preparation, and operation of food processing equipment.
  • Understanding of health, safety, hygiene, and bacterial contamination control measures.
  • Basic literacy and the ability to measure ingredients accurately.
  • A commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety in food preparation areas.
