What You’ll Do

  • Follow menus and special dietary plans to prepare meals for patients.
  • Clean and cut vegetables, and prepare meat, poultry, and fish as needed.
  • Cook and process ingredients to ensure meals are ready for consumption.
  • Serve prepared food using the appropriate crockery and ensure portion sizes meet dietary allowances.
  • Pack and deliver food trolleys to designated areas within the hospital.
  • Collect used cutlery and crockery to maintain a clean service environment.
  • Perform quality checks on cleaned equipment and ensure adherence to health and safety standards.
  • Regularly clean food processing areas and report any hygiene or safety concerns to supervisors.

What You’ll Need

  • An NQF Level 1 or 2 qualification (ABET Level 2 certificate or equivalent).
  • Basic knowledge of food services and food preparation methods.
  • Familiarity with food processing equipment and health safety measures.
  • Ability to work in a hygienic environment and manage bacterial contamination control.
  • Basic literacy skills and the ability to measure ingredients accurately.
