What You’ll Do

  • Follow menus and special diet plans to prepare and serve meals.
  • Prepare ingredients for meals, including cleaning and cutting vegetables and preparing meat, poultry, and fish.
  • Process and cook prepared ingredients for consumption.
  • Serve prepared food in appropriate crockery and ensure portion sizes align with dietary allowances.
  • Pack food delivery trolleys and deliver meals to designated areas within the hospital.
  • Maintain a safe and hygienic environment by collecting used cutlery and crockery.
  • Wash, dry, and store food processing equipment and utensils.
  • Perform regular checks to ensure hygiene and safety standards are upheld.
  • Report any unhygienic or unsafe situations to your supervisor.

What You’ll Need

  • NQF level 1 or 2 (ABET level 2 certificate or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of food services and food preparation.
  • Understanding of basic health and safety measures.
  • Familiarity with hygiene and bacterial contamination control measures.
  • Basic literacy skills and ability to operate food processing equipment.
  • Capability to measure ingredients accurately.
