The Department of Water and Sanitation is seeking a dedicated Environmental Officer Specialized Production Grade A to join their team in Hartbeespoort. This pivotal role focuses on providing support and oversight to three Area Offices within the Northern Operations, which include Hartbeespoort, Groblersdal, and Tzaneen. What You’ll Do

  • Support and oversee the Hartbeespoort, Groblersdal, and Tzaneen Area Offices in environmental management practices.
  • Assist in the development, maintenance, and rehabilitation of bulk water infrastructure projects.
  • Conduct environmental legislative screening assessments and compile terms of reference for environmental assessment practitioners.
  • Develop and implement environmental management plans for various projects.
  • Provide environmental, health, and safety inputs during project planning and construction phases.
  • Conduct environmental audits and site inspections, generating technical and monitoring reports.
  • Assist in the development of recreational water use policies and guidelines.
  • Monitor compliance with the National Water Act and other related legislation.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders, including communities and professional service providers, to ensure effective water resource management.

What You’ll Need

  • An Honours Degree in Environmental Science or a relevant qualification at NQF level 8.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of working experience in the field.
  • Valid unexpired driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of environmental compliance monitoring and enforcement.
  • Familiarity with the National Water Act and related environmental management legislation.
  • Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety Act and construction regulations.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and networking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and work irregular hours.
