What You’ll Do

  • Prepare and label samples for analysis, ensuring accuracy and adherence to protocols
  • Collect samples from various agricultural products, including fruits and vegetables
  • Perform routine analyses and record results to maintain quality control standards
  • Conduct visual inspections and extract samples for further examination
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper functioning and cleanliness
  • Assist in the decontamination and disposal of used samples and hazardous materials
  • Manage inventory control of laboratory supplies and equipment
  • Mentor and guide junior laboratory assistants in best practices and safety procedures
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in the laboratory environment
  • Perform administrative duties, including data processing and record-keeping

What You’ll Need

  • A Grade 12 certificate is mandatory
  • A minimum of three years of relevant work experience in a laboratory setting
  • Knowledge of Public Service and departmental policies, including the Agricultural Product Standards Act and the Liquor Products Act
  • Proficiency in laboratory techniques and safety protocols
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Computer literacy, including the ability to use relevant software
  • A valid Code 08 driver’s license
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
  • Capability to work in a team-oriented environment and provide training to others
  • Willingness to work extended hours when necessary
