About the Role

The National Prosecuting Authority is seeking a Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions to join its Head Office in Pretoria. This pivotal role is integral to ensuring the effectiveness and integrity of our criminal justice system. As a Deputy Director, you will oversee crucial decisions regarding prosecutions and provide essential guidance to the Head of the Organised Crime Component. Your work will directly impact the community by helping to combat organised crime and money laundering, contributing to a safer South Africa for all.

In this position, you will be tasked with interpreting documents from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and providing well-researched opinions. You will also manage the operations of the Money Laundering Component, ensuring that our strategies align with national objectives. By driving performance improvements and stakeholder engagement, you will play a key role in fostering a collaborative environment within the public service.

What You’ll Do

• Oversee decisions regarding prosecutions and provide advice to the Head of the Organised Crime Component.
• Read and interpret FATF documents, offering guidance to the NPA on compliance.
• Prepare high-level reports and opinions to support strategic decisions.
• Manage operations within the Money Laundering Component to drive performance and governance.
• Identify operational deficiencies and implement performance improvement plans.
• Coordinate stakeholder meetings and maintain strong partnerships.
• Develop and implement employee performance management systems.
• Prepare presentations for executive and management committees.
• Identify training needs and communicate them to the Training Component.

What You’ll Need

• An LLB degree or an appropriate legal qualification for serving prosecutors.
• At least ten years of post-qualification experience in civil and/or criminal litigation.
• Right of appearance as per section 25(2) of the NPA Act, 32 of 1998.
• Good advocacy skills, alongside well-developed legal research and drafting abilities.
• Minimum five years’ experience in criminal procedure and POCA legislation.
• Strong interpersonal, analytical, presentation, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities, including willingness to travel.
• Proficiency in computer skills and possession of a valid driver’s license.
