About the Role

What You’ll Do
- Develop and implement comprehensive internal and external communication strategies aligned with departmental objectives.
- Oversee the creation and distribution of regular newsletters featuring project updates and departmental news.
- Maintain and manage the departmental intranet, ensuring it is current and user-friendly.
- Quality-assure all leadership communications, including memos and staff emails.
- Create communication toolkits and templates for consistent application of corporate image standards.
- Produce press materials such as press releases and media advisories to announce departmental news.
- Manage social media content to promote the department’s public image and engage with the community.
- Build and maintain relationships with media representatives and influencers for targeted outreach.
- Develop and implement crisis communication strategies to protect the department’s reputation.
- Coordinate public liaison and events management services, ensuring alignment with community needs.
- Lead the management and evaluation of human resources within the Communications unit.
What You’ll Need
- A tertiary NQF level 7 Degree in Communication or Journalism.
- At least 3-4 years of experience at the Assistant Director level within a communications environment.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Knowledge of government communication frameworks and public service regulations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead a team effectively.
- Proficiency in computer skills, graphic design, and professional writing and editing.
- Familiarity with crisis communication protocols and stakeholder engagement models.
