What You’ll Do

  • Manage and conduct investigations and inquiries related to child welfare as per the Commissioner’s guidelines.
  • Initiate and oversee research on policies and legislation affecting children.
  • Create an accessible application mechanism for the public to report matters requiring investigation or research.
  • Prepare and review documents to support application assessments for investigations.
  • Engage with relevant stakeholders, conducting interviews and meetings to gather information on cases.
  • Draft comprehensive reports upon completing investigations for submission to the Commissioner for Children.
  • Provide expert advice on children’s rights to state organs and institutions.
  • Advocate for child rights and lobby for relevant issues within the province.
  • Supervise the activities and report on the workings of the Children’s Commissioner.

What You’ll Need

  • A 3-year tertiary qualification (B-Degree or higher) in Social and Administrative Sciences or related fields.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of the South African public sector’s constitutional and legal frameworks.
  • Familiarity with public communication, engagement processes, and corporate governance.
  • Competence in strategy development and management, problem-solving, and financial management.
  • Understanding of the needs and rights of children and the challenges they face.
  • Excellent skills in research, investigation, facilitation, presentation, and report writing.
