About the Role

The Department of Health is seeking a dedicated Clinical Programme Co-ordinator Grade 1 (Mental Health) to join its team in the Emalahleni, Mkhondo, Lekwa, and Nkomazi Sub-districts within the Nkangala and Gert Sibande Districts. This pivotal role is essential in coordinating and managing mental health services, ensuring that the community has access to comprehensive mental health and substance abuse programmes. By working closely with healthcare facilities and community stakeholders, you will contribute to the implementation of the Mental Health Care Act and the National Mental Health Policy Framework, which are vital for improving the lives of individuals affected by mental health issues in South Africa.

In this position, you will play a crucial role in delivering support to families, conducting home visits, and facilitating the establishment of community-based mental health services. What You’ll Do

• Coordinate and manage mental health and substance abuse programmes at the sub-district level.
• Ensure compliance with the Mental Health Care Act and strategic health plans.
• Conduct support visits in health facilities that provide 72-hour assessments.
• Manage state patients on leaves of absence and mental health care users in chronic care facilities.
• Facilitate the establishment of community-based mental health services and support groups.
• Conduct home visits to support families and prevent relapses.
• Lead awareness campaigns on mental health and substance abuse.
• Assist in preparing strategic and operational plans for the mental health programme.
• Liaise with other departments and NGOs to enhance service delivery.

What You’ll Need

• Senior Certificate/Grade 12 and a basic qualification accredited with the South African Nursing Council.
• Diploma/Degree in Nursing or equivalent qualification allowing registration as a Professional Nurse in Psychiatry.
• A minimum of seven years’ experience in a Mental Health Environment after registration as a Professional Nurse.
• Additional qualifications in Nursing Administration and Management will be advantageous.
• Strong leadership, coordination, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and planning abilities, with report writing skills.
• Valid driver’s license and proficiency in computer literacy.
